ABOUT
Hi, I'm
Matt.
I help managers, leaders, and organizations close the gap between what they intend to do and what actually happens.
What I’ve Observed
Most people don't have a knowledge problem.
They know what matters.
They know what they should do.
They've read the books, attended the training, and sat through the meetings.
Yet somewhere between intention and execution, things drift off course.
That's the gap I've spent my career studying.
I'm a lover of people and naturally drawn to things that spark curiosity.
Over time, I've learned to follow the energy.
When a challenge keeps showing up across industries, when a question won't leave me alone, or when a conversation lights people up, I pay attention.
That's usually where the gap reveals itself.
The Question Behind My Work
My career has taken me through technology, ministry, disaster response, supply chain, consulting, coaching, and higher education.
Looking back, I can see I was studying the same problem the entire time.
I just happened to be wearing different name tags.
Every role gave me another angle on the question that still drives my work today:
Why is the gap between what we intend and what we actually do so much wider than it should be and what does it take to close it?
In technology, that gap looked like requirements that didn't match what we built.
In ministry, it looked like values that didn't match how people treated one another.
In disaster response, it looked like plans that fell apart under pressure.
In business, it looked like strategies that never translated into execution.
Eventually, I realized I wasn't studying different problems.
I was studying the same problem wearing different name tags.
That realization became the foundation for Manage Your Gaps, the EP!C Management framework, and the coaching and consulting work I do today..
How I Work
One thing you'll notice if we work together: I think in frameworks, stories, and analogies.
I've found that most people aren't struggling because they're incapable. They're struggling because complexity creates confusion.
Good frameworks create clarity.
Good analogies make complex ideas easier to understand.
And clarity helps people move forward.
One question I frequently ask clients—and myself—is:
Would you rather stumble five steps in the right direction or run five miles in the wrong one?
Too often we confuse activity with progress.
Real progress requires three things:
Orient | Get clear on where you're going and why it matters.
Activate | Take meaningful action aligned with that direction.
Sustain Momentum | Create the systems, habits, and accountability needed to keep moving.
That's the work I love helping people do.
Beyond Work
My favorite role is Dad.
My wife Amanda and I are raising three amazing kids who remind me daily that curiosity matters, play matters, and people matter more than performance metrics.
When I'm not coaching, teaching, writing, or consulting, you'll usually find me reading, bikepacking, exploring new ideas, or cheering on UW–Madison Ultimate. #hodaglove
I'm also currently walking a path back into ministry, building work that integrates faith with what I've learned about leadership, management, and human flourishing.
It feels like a new chapter. In reality, it's part of the same story:
Helping people make meaningful progress in all aspects of their life.
"Fulfillment is a simple formula of the exchange between the energy we invest and the value it produces. My role is helping identify and optimize this formula for my clients.
I call this Fulfillment ROI."
